VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

History/Mission of Auxiliary

Our Auxiliary was formed in 1967 by a group of individuals in the community who wanted to support the hospital. At their first meeting, they simply defined their intention of the group by saying they wanted "to serve the hospital." Throughout the years, the Auxiliary has truly served the hospital and its community in untold ways, enriching the lives of those they have touched.

Today, we have over 100 men and women who are a part of our Auxiliary – donating their time and talents to continue the intent of the original founders: to serve the hospital. This is done through a variety of services provided by the Auxiliary including sponsorship of the annual John Harden Scholarship, monetary contributions for building campaigns and equipment purchases, the operation of a gift and coffee shop for the convenience of visitors, patients and employees and planning fundraisers like bake sales and the annual golf tournament.

The Mission of the Auxiliary is to render service to Cannon Memorial Hospital and its patients.

Benefits of Being a Volunteer

Our volunteers are very valuable at Cannon and we want to reward their efforts with benefits. Each volunteer receives a free meal each time they work at the hospital, they receive free flu shots each year, a free mammogram (for women) and PSA screening (for men). We honor the volunteers with a banquet each year at Christmas.

Requirements for All Volunteer Opportunities

Each volunteer is required to take a two-step PPD test which is given by the hospital and is free of charge. You must also participate in the annual safety training and demonstrate knowledge of safety issues. You must pay your annual dues and attend monthly meetings held on the first Thursday of each month – September through May. Auxiliary members are asked to participate in projects and serve on a committee of their choice. But most of all, our Auxiliary members should have a giving heart and a smile on their face.
